The history of the soccer world cup dates back to the first tournament hosted by Uruguay in 1930. The host nation perform well in the world cup with England, Argentina , Italy, West Germany and France all winning the world cup as the host nation.

In 1950 the statuette was named the Jules Rimet Cup after its founder, Frenchman Jules Rimet.

The FIFA World Cup was founded in 1971. It was designed by Silvio Gazzanigi of Italy. Made of 18-carat gold and malachite, the cup is 36 cm tall and weighs 5 kg.

The only team to appear in every World Cup Finals since 1930 is Brazil.
